PE at FOREST HILLS

TEACHING PE IN SCHOOL

At Forest Hills Primary School, we believe that our pupils need PE as part of a broad and balanced curriculum which develops the whole child. PE education in our school is enhanced by our supportive school ethos, where all children are valued and encouraged, develop positive relationships with themselves and others. There is a safe and secure school environment that is conducive to learning. Our aim is to provide our children with an engaging, exciting and enabling PE curriculum that equips them with the skills and knowledge that they need to lead healthy and happy lives.

A physical education curriculum which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in physically demanding and competitive activities is one of high-quality teaching which we provide at Forest Hills. We ensure that staff are well supported and have all of the resources which mean they will be confident in delivering quality lessons which allow for clear progression and allow children to develop their competence in a broad range of physical activity. In turn, this will ensure that all children are able to maintain physical activity over a sustained period of time, supporting their overall health and fitness.

With a combination of good physical health where children can use a broad range of skills and positive mental health where children have the resilience and value themselves, our children have the healthy foundation which they need for competition in competitive sports and their later lives. Children should be able to communicate well with their peers and work together to perform in sports. Through our engaging curriculum, children will begin to think tactically about their sports working efficiently and competitively.

Our PE curriculum is planned by our external specialist, who support our staff to deliver the best possible outcomes for our children.

We understand that the need to be physically active goes far beyond our PE lessons, we therefore promote physical activity at break and lunch times. Children have a wide range of equipment to engage with and this encourages them to remain active throughout the day. We have also acquired physical activity kits that have been sent home with our families to extend physical activity further.

WHY IS PE IMPORTANT TO OUR CHILDREN?

EYFS

In Early Years, there are opportunities planned in the environment for children to develop their gross and fine motor skills. There is a outdorr area, where children can run, jump, climb, roll and develop their gross motor skills. Fine motor skills are also developed discretely through the creative area or explicitly through planned activities and resources.
